Palmer's -- San Marcos Texas

Last night we met friends in San Marcos for dinner. After a google search we decided on Palmer's. The menu online looked yummy and one of the couples had been there and said it was good. So off we went to have a late dinner.

E and I arrived early and sat in the bar to wait. I had a nice glass of McManis Cabernet Sauvignon, California 2008 and E had a vodka tonic. The drink menu was very extensive and bigger than their food menu! We decided to have an appitizer of Cajun Shrimp as well. The shrimp was sautéed in butter, Cajun seasonings, and fresh garlic and served with grilled rosemary bread. I was very impressed!

After everyone arrived we went to the dining room (I was surprised at how large of a dining area inside and out that they had). Everyone ordered something different and I think everyone really enjoyed their food.

Here is a break-down of what was ordered -- the portions were a nice size.

GREEK SALAD -- mixed field greens with feta cheese, artichoke heart, romas, kalamata olives, and pepperoncini their own Greek dressing -- served with blakened chicken breast.

NEW YORK STRIP 12 oz -- peppered and finished with a Gorgonzola cream sauce, Yukon gold mashers and seasonal vegetables This was what I had but had the gorgonzola sauce on the side, I didn't care for the smell or look of it.

SPICY PECAN-CRUSTED FRESH SALMON -- with pear-lime coulis, chef's rice and seasonal vegetables

CHARBROILED AHI TUNA -- with chipotlé aïoli, chef's rice and seasonal vegetables

CHICKEN PALMER -- sautéed breast layered with fresh avocado and tomato slices, melted Swiss cheese, & brown sauce, served with chef's rice and seasonal vegetables

STUFFED FLOUNDER -- (This was the evening special) Not sure what sort of stuffing it had in it but was served with rice and veggies. This is what E ordered and he said it was good

I think everyone ordered dessert but I can't remember. We had carrot cake, key lime pie and chocolate satin pie. The carrot cake was good, chocolate satin pie was very rich and the key lime pie needed more lime flavor. I of course ordered the key lime and it was good but not great. The crust on it and the chocolate satin pie was really good -- a good graham cracker crust and a chocolate cookie crust on the satin pie.

The wine was really good as well. :) It was a nice place and we have decided that it is a perfect spot to meet our friends that live in San Antonio. :)
